I've tried really hard to make learning engaging at home and at school. Play-based learning is my passion and I love to come up with new ways to learn.
This week was all about families. Together with our “at home” friends we learned that families can be different. We read “A Family Is a Family Is a Family” by Sara O'Leary.
First the students got a chance to create an “ all about me” project. At the end of the week we got to do a Google Meet with our at home friends and find out how many brothers and sisters everyone has!
We built our houses with “loose parts”.
We had fun with math!
Building our numbers with pony beads and pipe cleaners. Fun was had stacking and counting cups.
Shapes here and shapes there, everywhere there are shapes!
Looking for shapes at home and in the classroom was exciting and engaging!
Did I mention how excited we were to do a Google meet with our friends at home?
Of Course we all need a little down time.
So we learned how to put a "pinch of our-self" into our reading. This means to make a connection with the story and add your thinking.
What A Great Week!
This was a great week and we felt a little bit more connected with our home friends. I've got some great plans coming up this week for Apple week and then the week after that we are going to be Entomologist! We will even Skype with a real Entomologist! I'm not a huge fan of bugs, but we had a cricket in the classroom last week and the kids were so excited about it! I thought why not go with what interest them and make it a great learning experience!
